don’t normally post things like this and I know I’ll lose some followers, but I want to spread this information so more people know.
tiktok moderation guidelines were leaked a few days ago and it was exposed that moderators were told to filter out (on the “for you” page) fat ppl, super skinny ppl, ppl w facial deformities, ugly ppl, ppl with dwarfism, elderly people, people with visible physical or mental disabilities, ppl with shabby clothes or living situations (”poor” ppl), “controversial” people (lgbt), or content supporting the “uglification” of history (large protests, criticisms of political figures, political movements, etc).
they claimed it was to stop bullying, but they later admitted it was to “beautify” their platform because ugly people won’t draw in new users, and that the guidelines were no longer in use. but there is evidence showing that the guidelines were still in place in December of 2019, so I seriously doubt they actually changed anything, and even if they did, the fact that those guidelines were in place at all is telling enough.
they allow tweens to dance almost-naked on camera on a platform with a large adult userbase and videos of animal abuse to be on the For You page but being ugly is a step too far?? are you kidding me?? tiktok even had an “ugly” filter for a while which directly made fun of people who looked a certain way. and they claim their moderation guidelines were an attempt to stop bullying?
anyway. I’m surprised nobody is talking about it so I’m pulling an “old man yells at cloud” abt it

White people at it again. The Flayed Lord’s name is Xipe Totec, he’s one of the main dieties in Aztec culture. He is primarily associated with fertility and agriculture, and is strongly connected to renewal and rebirth (the flayed aspect is supposed to symbolize how corn, a major crop, sheds it’s outer layers). Aside from that, we know *very* little about mesoamerican cultures. What we do know mainly comes from retellings and accounts from Spanish conquerors, who of course had a biased perspective. Finding a new temple is a huge deal, because when the Spanish were systematically wiping out our culture, they made a point to build churches over preexisting temples and shrines. A lot of the churches are still there, but the Mexican government considers them historical buildings, and as such no one is allowed to dig under the churches or excavate the area. There are countless temples we haven’t seen because they’re under these churches. Finding a temple we can actually study is such a big deal!

Imagine. Your job is to sit in front of the most powerful man in the country if not the world and interrogate him on national tv in front of god and everyone. And that man is both an idiot and hates everyone in your profession.
This guy probably went to college for journalism and clawed his way up through the industry for years to get to the point where he can be a whitehouse correspondent and is putting himself and potentially his coworkers and family in danger of being infected because he’s gotta leave the house every day to interrogate the people who work in the executive branch and report back to his news agency because that’s his frickin job even with confirmed cases on Capitol Hill. And then he asks a baseline simple question and the president calls him stupid.
What. Other response is there other than that? My god. I am just… so sorry for reporters during this time.
